Expedio is officially 10 years old today. Ten years since deciding to go for it, think about a name, logo and brand and register it on the Business Names Register. At that time there was just me as a sole trader and the adventure had begun. Not many business owners in the UK had heard the term “Virtual Assistant” and at networking events I was initially met with looks of confusion and amusement that I thought I could work with someone if I wasn’t sat next to them. Things have certainly changed a lot since then. Expedio made the move to being a ltd company in 2007 and today we are a close-knit team of 5 – even though we’re all remote in physical location. With Sarah based in France and Steph in Italy we can sound a very glamorous global company when that’s dropped in to conversation!

I know I haven’t always got things right. Being successful, growing up as a company and continuing to provide a great service to a growing client base hasn’t been an easy path every day. Until I found the great team I have now I’ve been through - overstretching myself, to office premises with employees and back again, through making the shift from absolutely everything coming through me to utilising all of the software and file sharing capabilities that now come in “the cloud” so I could bring virtual team members on board. There have been huge strides forward in the ease of remote communications over the last few years and now Virtual Assistants are heard being promoted by many super-successful business owners who know they can’t do everything in their business themselves. There’s also been a huge growth in the number of companies offering remote support. Two years ago, to help cope with the demand in enquiries from prospective VAs we started an online magazine providing information and training to both start up and practicing Virtual Assistants and in the 2012 Society of Virtual Assistants Industry survey I was delighted to have been named a “VA Hero”.

I’m so happy to have shared some of, and indeed in a couple of cases – all, the journey with my amazing clients. I feel very privileged to be part of the plans of such a variety of different businesses in very different sectors. No day is the same and whilst I’m still eager to find out what I can help with today and what will help a client’s business grow – then my work doesn’t feel like work at all.

We’re giving away 10 Kindle Fire HDs to celebrate our birthday

Expedio is entering the next stage of its growth and I want to continue to provide excellent customer service whilst being able to plan for the future for the company, which involves having a top notch team available and ready to carry out work on demand.

So, to celebrate our birthday I’d like to give ten clients a present as I introduce here our “Emerald” service.

Our Emerald service clients will have:

20 retained hours per month

guaranteed 4 hours in any working week, within 12 working hours of request

absolute priority every day over pay-as-you-go clients when planning workload

immunity from any price rises for the next 12 months

and if you sign up for 12 months by 1st April 2013 we’ll send you, as a gift, a Kindle Fire HD tablet. You’ll be able to make requests of us via our “teamwork” project management application and track how your work’s going… and of course you’ll also be able to take your books, music and other productivity tools with you wherever you go.

20 hours costs £460 + VAT per month, invoiced in advance each month. Further hours would be invoiced in arrears at £23 + VAT per hour. If you’d like to know more, or discuss retaining more hours, please contact me now. With our current team we’ll only be having a maximum of ten Emerald clients at any one time and I hope one of them will be you!

Joanne

P.S. Hine’s Emerald is an extremely rare dragonfly and we thought it a good choice of name for our rare priority service! We look forward to continuing to set you free from the routine.
